Initiatives
In the 2017 SACSW Report to the President, the Committee brought forward a number of recommended changes with the intent of continuing to afford women equal and fair access to campus programs, activities and opportunities. The following recommendations have been accomplished or are in progress.
Accomplishments
- Inaugurated the UC Women’s Initiative for Professional Development, an experiential professional development program designed to elevate women in leadership positions at UC
- Analyzed best practices on diversity and equity in hiring across UC locations
- Assessed UC locations in meeting or exceeding lactation accommodation standards
- Developed a proposal for provision of adoption benefits for UC employees
- Implemented an emergency back up care program
- Promoted mentoring programs for women
- Participated in a climate survey effort to include gender-related focus
In Progress
- After two successful programs in 2016 and 2017, the Women’s Initiative will be provided as a regular development offering to women across the UC system. SACSW’s focus will now be on documenting the effects of this program on individual effectiveness and network-building.
- Advocate for adoption benefits and paid family leave for UC employees
- Advocate for lactation facilities in all new UC buildings
- Examine whether UC should grow the Staff Equity Advisors program; Recommend that each UC location have a plan to include representation of women and minorities on all search committees
